In celebration of our Third Anniversary, Momwriters is pleased to announce:

THE THIRD ANNUAL MOMWRITERS
"GOLDEN PEN AWARDS"

Golden Pen Awards Up for Grabs
By Linda Sherwood
Roving Reporter

MOMWRITER CLUB HOUSE - The Momwriter anniversary is quickly approaching and many members of the exclusive writing community are working hard to hang onto their Golden Pen awards. Every year, Momwriters from across the globe vote to recognize the achievements, acknowledging the hard work of all the writers who toil in their midst while struggling to maintain a family life as well.

So what exactly is the Momwriters Golden Pen awards? Well, it's just the most prestigious and fun award given out to hard working Momwriters annually. The awards are just part of the month-long anniversary plans. Momwriters began in May 1998. What started as a small group of like minded Momwriters has turned into a community over 800 members strong. Sadly, however, the category of favorite lurker is hard to fill.

However, there are 20 categories that can be and will be filled every year. The competition is strong and much like the real life political process, stumping for votes is an "anything goes" atmosphere. But last year's winners are determined to keep their titles so the competitions are sure to be stiff.

There have been rumors that a new category, "Most burned by ill-conceived Web sites yet still continues to write" has been added, but so far golden pen organizers have remained mute on the subject. Other possible categories that have been considered and dismissed resulted from the Momwriter Photo Exchange. Carma, however, nixed the categories for fear it would prevent Momwriters from signing up for the next round of the photo exchange. Would you submit your photo if you knew it would be judged for looks and poise as well as bad hair day and messiest desk? We thought not.

Linda Dupie believes she has little competition for the coveted Rise and Shine Award (aka the Early Bird Award). She's had challengers, but judges quickly found her stiffest competition came from Momwriters who'd stayed up to the wee hours of the morning rather than getting up in the wee hours of the morning. Many Momwriters admit to being in awe over Dupie's ability to spell correctly at 4:30 a.m. let alone put meaningful words and sentences together.

Elisabeth Abbott, the 2000 winner for the Bubbles Award, believes there couldn't be any possible competition for her bouncy personality. But Abbott's writing career has taken off this past year leaving her little time to pounce upon unsuspecting Momwriters. It seems a certain fireman, or possibly a Navy man, has been keeping her busy since her birthday celebration and the infamous trip across the 100 acre woods holding onto helium balloons. Will Momwriters remember the many gloomy days that has been cheered thanks to the bounces of a certain Tiggeer? Has she bounced enough this year to hang onto her title? Can she bounce her way in a last minute effort to retain her title? Or has our very own Otterbe bumped out Tiggeer? Only the members of Momwriters can decide.

Last year, there was strong competition for the List Comedian award (aka "I'm funnier than my two-year-old"). Linda Schopper led the pack, however. But thanks to some questionable hanky panky by Linda Sherwood and Shelley Haggert, Linda S in Florida has been strangely quiet this year.... Peg908 has been busy working at her new job and may not have been posting enough to grab the honors. Will Linda Sherwood, who barely made the runners up last year, make it to the top of the heap this year?* Much like the bites in a tootsie roll pop, the world may never know.... Then again, we will all find out in May when the winners of the 2001 Golden Pen Awards are announced.

Who will win this year's Indy 500 award for the Momwriter whose career has come the farthest since joining the list? Does Kathryn Lay's accomplishments really count? She was doing well before joining the list. But what about the book writing duo of Teri Brown and Leanne Ely? Both had their books published this year by Champion Press. Teri's book was just listed at Amazon.com (check it out!) We can all say, "We knew them when." Or will it go to Shelley in SWO with her McLeans clip prominently displayed above her computer?

Who could possibly beat out Carma for the Roar Award for giving encouragement and support to fellow members? Last year, Bea, Michelle Smith, Cathy Brownfield and Tiggeer came close. Can they pull off an upset this year?

Last year we had a three-way tie for the Best Advice Giver or the Wisdom Award. Yvette DeLuca, Kathryn Howard and Chomi were declared the wisest of the wise last year, but all three have been pretty quiet this year. Do we have new wisdom givers among us? Do we have another 3-way tie brewing...this time with Shirley Kawa-Jump, Angela Giles Klocke and Kathryn Lay? (By the way, Kathryn may need to get a third name just to keep up....). The Momwriters will decide.

In a special bid to retain her Scales of Justice honors, Linda Sherwood* has agreed to start and maintain at least four more Web sites, along with taking care of six more kids and two more writing jobs. She still refuses to reveal where she hides the bodies. "What bodies?" she said as her foot kicks at a suspicious lump of dirt. For the record, she currently maintains a full-time job, four children under the age of six, three Web sites (including one award winning one) and a husband. Housekeeping skills, or lack of them, do not count in this category.****

Michelle Pearson and Lisa Beamer are strong competitors for a number of categories. These two long time Momwriter members are shining examples to new Momwriter members. The two are also humble as they proclaim they are just passing the torch of wisdom they received from Momwriter veterans to the newest Momwriter members. Anyone want to take any bets how many times these two are nominated?

Will anyone be able to oust Melody as the winner of the Kumbaya award two years running? It truly is doubtful. No one can strum a guitar like our Melody who writes (and many Momwriters are sure speaks) at 100 mph. We get breathless just reading her accounts.

Is it any surprise that the Momwriters We Love to Hate award has gone to two women who have managed to create quality resources for writing? In 1999 it was Sandy Cummins of Writers-Exchange. In 2000 it was Angela Giles Klocke of The Writing Parent. Who could it be this year?*

It is clear to any Momwriter in the know that Barb Huff is actively campaigning for the List Optimist award (or "You have no right to be so darned positive." How can a woman claim to enjoy working with teenagers? She really acts like she even enjoys it!

Will dej beat out Anna for the List Techie award also known as the "I can fix anything a six-year-old can fix"? Will they add the Bob Vila award or will Crysty Riggs once again win the Busiest Mom Award (aka What is sleep? award)?

Stay tuned ladies (and gents) 'cuz the anniversary fun is just beginning.

*Shameless self promotion by the author. This post is an unauthorized post and is in no way related to official Golden Pens activity. It is blatant self serving rhetoric by the author in her vain attempts to vie for several coveted Golden Pen Award categories. BEWARE! She may be the first, but she will not be the last Momwriter attempting to sway the votes of innocent Momwriters. Which category does she covet the most? Numbers 1-20 of course. Feel free to vote for her for any and all categories. It doesn't matter that she never rises before 6:30 a.m. Can we prove Linda Dupie really works at 4:30 a.m.? Hmmm? I thought so!

****Absolute complete rhetoric from the author.
