Amy Hillgren Peterson Amy Hillgren Peterson
"Amy Hillgren Peterson is the author of "The Swedish Lie," a family saga available at the publisher's website http://www.booklocker.com/books/1563.html, and "Elusive Butterfly" a memoir. Both books are available on Amazon.com. A Virgo, she is mom of Dylon, born in 1993, a preteen with Asperger's syndrome, as well as Caitlyn, born in1996 and Bryan, born in 2003. She lives in Sioux City, Iowa and works as a freelance writer and graphic artist. She is at work on her second novel, "Rock Candy" which tells the story of the methamphetamine trafficking in the upper great plains.

"All her life, Henny was surrounded by warnings like these: You're nothing special. Don't expect too much; you might be disappointed if you fail. Respond to compliments like this -- 'It was nothing - anyone could have done it.'

These are unwritten rules in Jante's Law - an unspoken code of ethics in Scandinavian-American culture. How this law has ruled the Larson family for four generations is a mystery Henny's been trying to unravel for years.

The day she finds her great-grandmother's century-old journals, Henny's life begins to make sense. Will the stories of frontier life, the Depression, drag races, and love in the '60s lead Henny to finally reach for her own passions and get it right with Christopher, the love of her life?"

Angela Giles Klocke Angela Giles Klocke
Between caring for four wonderful children - Scott, Brian, Stacey and Andri - and four cats, and being totally in love with my modern-day hippie husband of a year and a half, John, I publish several online and print newsletters for writers and parents. After a three-year-plus hiatus from writing, I returned and jumped in full force, starting my own publishing business. I began publishing The Writing Parent when I realized I was having a hard time working with children in the home. If it was a problem for me, it must be one for many other parents. Shortly thereafter, my oldest son and I began publishing The Writing Child. From there, my other newsletter just took off. To date, I publish five online and two in print. I am also a editor at Suite101 http://www.suite101.com/welcome.cfm/writing_help_for_parents and am HARD at work on my first novel. When I have free-time (yeah, right) I love to read, spend time with the family, hang out with my hubby and e-mail my friends at Momwriters and all over the net. Come visit me :-) http://www.klockepresents.com

pen in hand Anne Cerva
My name is Anne and I live in Michigan with my husband Joel, daughter Chloe, age 8 and my son, Griffin, age 2 1/2. I am 31 years young and have worked many odd jobs in my life, but being a full time mom is the most trying and fulfilling job I have ever had. I homeschool Chloe and write in my spare time.

I am a guide at The Mining Co. for the topic of French Cuisine and I feel this is a great learning experience for me to get back into writing. I actually get paid for it so I'm counting it as being published. I have just had my first article accepted at a travel magazine, trips, and it is due for publication in April. It deals with what really happens to your luggage after it's checked in at the airport. My recent experience working for Northwest Airlines provided plenty of juicy material for that one.

I really love the way this group shows true concern for everyone here and I can't wait to be more involved in the discussions. I hope to provide some help or encouragement to others as well as snatching all the wonderful inspiring ideas you all share. Nice to meet you all.

Ann Marie Garcia ~~Ann Marie Garcia~~
This MomWriter resides in sea-sprayed, sunny, but sometimes smoggy L Southern California. I’ve been happily married to a dear man for 15 years. I have two beautiful girls, ages 14 and 7. My 7-year-old was adopted at birth and has SCREAMING ADHD. She makes my life most colorful and supplies great fodder for my writing. Plus, it’s cheap therapy! I always tell her I shall have a special place in Heaven for being her mommy!

I enjoyed writing poetry when I was a child and have always liked all things literary. It’s a toss-up as to whether I enjoy reading or writing more. I am blessed with a wonderfully supportive family and husband. They are great at encouraging me to follow my dream of becoming a published writer. My writing interests include articles and essays about parenting, marriage, women’s issues, adoption, ADHD, and mental health. Also, I dabble in poetry and fiction.

Recently, I finished taking a few creative-writing classes. I’m now ready to begin my foray into the real world of big, bad, publishing J. I’m excited about the prospect of sending my writing out. The support and camaraderie at MomWriters has been a real blessing. I’m looking forward to my journey.

pen in hand April Lee Schmidt
My name is April and my husband is Terry. We currently reside in west central Alabama, though we are originally from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I am a SAHM to our toddler son Tyler. I have two grown sons, Dan and Josh. Dan has a beautiful wife Marha and son Daniel. I also have a daughter Samantha who is just going into her teenage years.

We also own, (or do they own us?) Fitz the psycho kitty, Puffy and Slim the cantankerous cockatiels, and Ono, the lone beta-fish.

My career as a writer is still in the earliest stages. I have written articles for my old hometown newspaper and multiple ending stories for gigglefish.com, a children’s Internet site.

I am currently writing reviews for epinions.com, working on a novel, as well as writing stories for my son and grandson. My goal as a writer is to have a picture book published by the end of the year 2000.

pen in hand Ashley Cox
My name is Ashley Cox and I live in Knoxville, TN. I work fulltime in an office and try to sneak in writing my "stories" when no one else is around! I'm almost 26 years old, and I have a 15 month toddler, who takes up much of my free time!

I joined the US Army when I was 19, and met my husband in the military. Due to medical reasons, I had to get out and get a "real job". After years of being a temporary, I finally settled into the job I have now.

With so much free time on my hands, and every book I owned read over and over, I decided to amuse myself by writing my own stories. I began writing a romance longhand and finished it in 4 weeks. I'm still working on the inspiration to type it into the word processor!

My favorite aspect of writing is using my imagination and doing research. I would love to get paid to do research, I guess that would be my dream job (since I have to work).

Although I don't have anything in print (yet ;-) ), I will keep banging them out, because I enjoy writing and reading.

I also like to do crafts, sewing, quilting, gardening, animals, sunshine and cold weather. :)

pen in hand Ann Douglas
My name is Ann Douglas and I live in Peterborough, Ontario. I have four children (ages one to ten) and I write on parenting-related topics for magazines, newspapers, and online services. I'm the author of five books, three of which are for families:

The Unofficial Guide to Childcare http://www.childcare-guide.com
Baby Science: How Babies Really Work http://www.babyscience.com
Baby Science has been chosen as a Book of the Month Club selection!
The Unofficial Guide to Having A Baby http://www.having-a-baby.com (due out in January).

My other two books are THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO CANADIAN HISTORY (Prentice Hall Canada, 1997) and THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO CURLING (Prentice Hall Canada, 1998). (Footnote for non-curlers: Curling is that strange sport where people slide rocks down a sheet of ice!)

These days, I'm writing a book about juggling work and family. I'm also trying to practice balance in my own life. I've started taking Fridays off so that I can enjoy my one year old and smell the roses.

pen in hand Audrey Smith
Hi! I'm Audrey Smith and I am happily married to my best friend, Rick. We have three kids: Juliana, 11; Patrick, 9; and Alexandra, 6. I work full time as a High-School English teacher and love my job because it not only keeps me in touch with classic literature but it allows me time off to write.

I have a B.A. in English and an M.Ed in English Education (but my husband really deserves that second degree since I couldn't have done it without him). I am the seventh child of a seventh child born in the seventh month, but the only thing really special about that is that I have lots of wonderful siblings (who supply me with fresh writing material every time we get together!)

I have been published four times in the local literary magazine (non-paying, but I did win their Fiction Award twice for a total of $100!) I have written two novellas and have amassed over fifty rejection slips (and they keep on coming!). I also have written two children's stories and have just begun submitting those. I am currently working on a novel for Novel Challenge 99.

I am thrilled to be a part of Momwriters and look forward to the day I can finally put faces with the names in my e-mail!
